S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems
India has concluded price negotiations with Russia for deal to procure ….S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems for Indian Air Force (IAF). They also have finalised financial component nearly Rs 40,000 crore of the deal.
The deal will be announced before annual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin in October 2018. Now both countries are now trying to find way out to evade provisions of CAATSA (Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act), a stringent US law that seeks to punish countries and entities engaged in transactions with defence or intelligence establishment of Russia.
Why Objection by USA?
- The countries under pressure from the U.S. to not buy this weapon are India and Turkey.
-The acquisition of S-400 by countries has taken centre stage in the American diplomacy regarding Russia.
-U.S. believes that S-400 could access sensitive U.S. military technologies in service with the potential buyers.
